June 5P.I 1) An article on the law that regulated the admission of Chinese students into Canada: 1906: there was a special law to have all Chinese immigrants to pay $500 tax;however, if anyone could prove himself to be a student, he could be exempt. 1907: a new law was set up: even students had to pay $500 head tax. After he had been in school for one year, and the school authority could prove him to be a genuine student, he would get his tax back.1917: Any student upon arrival would be exempt from the tax if he could produce his transcript.
