February 22P.2-3 1) The Van. City Council held a meeting during which they suggested to beautifyVan., they degraded Chinatown, regarded it as untidy, with opium smokers and the merchants used clothing as sign-boards. Although the head of the Public Health Department insisted that as a whole Chinese were sanitary and tidy, the other aldermen disbelieved him and asked for more detailed investigation. They were against Chinese selling vegetables, poultry on the sidewalk. The Health Dept. also informed the Chinese Times that the paper should give notice to all Chinese butchers to put clothing or covers on all meat, and also all Chinese should urinate inside the restroom.P-3 2) Fund raising for the drought in N. China: donations and services (e.g. Leun On Co.) would put on performances for 5 days during which all income would be donated for the relief fund.3) Van. - banquet on Feb. 22 to celebrate the spring. 4)Chee Duck long - held a celebration on Feb. 20 with more than 100 attendants.5) CKT New West - held a spring festival. Concurrently, the editor of the New Ron Man Pao ( ) , was visiting New Westminster. He represented the Korean Independent Association (American Branch ), to raise funds. He was invited toCKT to make speeches about Korean crisis. The CKT ^immediately raised money for the association. Mr. Hung also visited CBA to seek help. CBA then sent fund raising agents to help Hong on a fund drive. Executives were also elected during the spring festival - President ; Vice6) Ottawa news - the Chinse Embassy also received donations for relief in N. China. It had already remitted all the funds to China. (The fund/food drive could be terminated when the harvest was in June and May.)7) Van. - a village in whre most of the Cheung clan members lived had experienced a fire last year which destroyed most of the house. It wasfortunate that some of the Chinese in Van. and Vic. helped with donations.8) CKT Sam Hap Co, would elect the treasurer on Feb. 13. The interest for last year was out - $1.65 per share.9) Chinese Reform Party Van. - would hold executive election on Feb. 28
