July 29th, SaturdayP.3 (1) The Christian/Chinese Association (310 Fender) was an independentassociation which depended upon monetary support from the members and various Chinese stores. Now, due to the moving of the association to a new address, the association would like to raise funds for better development. It was hoped that the Chinese community would help by donating.(2) The Cumberland Overseas Chinese Association was the head association in Cumberland and it made an announcement on July 20th to criticize the New Republic for printing rumours in their newspaper. Since the Chinese miners in Cumberland were in danger of being excluded from work, they asked help from the Chinese Ambassador. The New Republic spread the rumor that the representatives from the Chinese Embassy were paid by individual miners ($5 each) to work for the case. The Overseas Chinese Association naturally denied that they had paid for the representatives and they criticized the New Republic for spreading such rumors. Finally, they criticized the C.B.A. in voth Vancouver and Victoria for not giving help to the miners in Cumberland. Lastly, they questioned why the other leading Chinese newspapers did not publish articles that exposed the discriminatory action against the miners
