August 2nd, WednesdayP.3 (1) The C.B.A. in Montreal made an announcement on July 22nd to clear up the rumors spread by the New RepublicJ \- of the New Republic reported that: a) Ambassador Chitt. (in Montreal to hang the flag designed by Yuan ( (the flag was supposingly a national flag of Yuan which the Chinese denounced.)) had forced the C.B.A.b) Ambassador Chiu hindered the raising of war funds against Yuan by Kuomingtang.c) Ambassador Chiu had asked for $5 payment from each laundry shop in Montreal before he took action to help.The C.B.A. in Montreal was furious about such reports byL\They claimed that Chiu was an enthusiastic and generous helper who was against Yuan when he claimed himself to be emporer. Chiu hated the flag of Yuan because he thought that would mean the disintegration of the Republic of China. The Ambassador himself was for the anti-Yuan war fund .Finally, the C.B.A. claimed that Chiu was generous and did not ask for any money from the C.B.A., he himself even paid for the travelling expenses between Ottawa and C.B.A. in Montreal.There was also the report that the C.B.A. in Montreal refused to raise war funds for anti-Yuan campaign. However, the C.B.A. explainedthat the association had only registered under the name of a charitybecome organization. That meant that it would be illegal for them to/involvedin - political campaign.
