April 30th, Monday P. 3& ^<+1. News from Ottawa: Cabinet Minister -g- v» fcj made a proposalin the House of Commons that Chinese students coming to Canada should be exempt from the $500 head tax. Originally all Chinese students had to give $500 head tax upon arrival in Canada. They would get the tax back when leaving Canada.2. The Ontario provincial legislature had passed a law to cancel the law thatprohibited the Chinese from employing female whites. P. 73. The China Mail Steamship Company announced that it would recruit more shareholders (each share $21) . There was a brief report on the conditions of the company. In Vancouver there were quite a lot of agents forcollecting money for shares (eg.922 j-Lo t- 5'r\ fand etc
