April 8 P.3 1) Ambassador Wong announced on April 6 that there was a proposal in B.C. Legislature to have all workers in mining companies, explosive factories, sawmills, fisheries etc. examined for English standards. It would mean a great danger to the majority of Chinese workers who could not understand English. Fortunately, the proposal was over-ruled in its 2nd reading. However, it would be brought to discussion again in 6 months. Ambassadoe Wong thus hoped that the Chinese community could do something within the six months period to fight for their rights.
