May 27 CKT - Representatives were sent to attend the CKT General Conference held in San. Francisco. Participating branches were CKT Van., Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Calgary. 2) Over 100 Chinese workers who were to work in Mexico were being deported. They were in Van. enroute to China. Several RCMP were present at the pier to make sure they didnot take refuge in Vancouver.P.3 3) Parlimanet had recently suggested to prohibit Chinese merchants from enteringCanada The Chinese organizations in Van. thus pleaded with Consul General Yip to work with Ambassador Yeung to protest against such discrimination. Yip wrote to Yeung protesting that such a proposal, which was decided by the Canadian govt.without consultation of the Chinese gov't. was a big insult to the Chinese community.P.4 4) A group of Chinese students were in Van. enroute to China. They were the 1st group of students who went to a navy school in Washington.5) Immigration problem - it was reported on the English newspaper that Mrs. Chu, who was a new immigrant had trouble in entering Canada. Ms. Chu was the new bride of a Chinese who worked in Van. for 18 years.6) The restrictive amendment v.s. Chinese merchants was being read in Parliament on May 25- It was decided that all incoming Chinese merchants had to prove satisfactorily that they were genuine merchants
