June 3, 1922 (Saturday)P. 3 (1) Ambassador Chan was given full authority by the Chinese government to ' ' / make a commercial agreement with the Canadian government so as to protect the rights of the Overseas Chinese. (2) News from Victoria. The head ( X 'v£~ CXi ) of the PublicService of B.C. announced in a meeting with representatives from Vancouver Island that investigation had been made to find out what kinds of occupation the majority of Asians were in and to see if the whites were affected. He found out that most employers preferred Asian workers, and this was especially so in the lumber and fishing industries. As a result, many whites became unemployed. At the end of the meeting,emphasized that he would try his best to replace the Asian workers by the whites
