January 4 (Friday) '^P.I 1) A toast for the New Year was made. It was hoped that all Chinese could,^ £ unite together for national salvation.P.I 2) Chee Duck Tong United Realty Company announced that due to the heavysnowfall and the approaching Chinese New Year, , ,and who had gone to various places to recruit share-holders would suspend their trip until February or March.P.3 3) Consul General Lira made a clarification of the new law that was passed by the Department of National Revenue some time ago. It was said that all tailers, clothing manufacturers and flower growers who made direct sales to their customers were treated as retail businessmen. They did not have to obtain any tax licence ( ) or maintain any Englishor French bookkeeping. The new law only applied to those manufacturers or producers whose annual income was $10,000 and those distributors or sale agents whose clients were primarily manufacturers or producers.P.3 4) 3 Chinese were arrested for owning gambling dens in Powell and Columbia Streets. A number of gamblers were arrested, too.P.3 5) Chee Duck Tong (Vancouver). On Jan. 1, there was the celebration of the Day of the Chinese Republic ( ). Finally,gave an account on his mission in recruiting shareholders.P.3 6) CKT(Vancouver). On Dec. 31, a meeting was held to admit new members. About 20 people joined the association.On Jan. 1, an office acceptance ceremony was held by the new executives. The new president wasP.3 7) CKT(Victoria). The new executives assumed their offices on Jan.l. Speeches were made by the new president ,, (English Secretary), ,(Supervisor), (Chinese secretary) andP.3 8) News from Montreal. 3 Chinese university graduates from China were sent by the traffic office in Peking to come to Montreal to further their studies in railway engineering. They had now joined the CPR.P.2 9) Shar Doey Mutual Society (Vancouver) announced that a general convention ( ) and an office acceptance ceremony would be held on Jan.12and 13th respectively. All members were welcome.i
