They stressed that the East Asians should not be treated as citi- zens because their living styles and ideals were completely different from the Canadians. Besides, the East Asians had been infringing upon their rights, and if no check was made on this, complete exploitation by them would be inevitable. They further pointed out that all narcotics criminals should be deported in order to XH stem out the abuse.P.3 2) There was a report in the English newspaper on how theChinese want for their registration. Despite their reluctance and fury towards registration, no violence or misbehaviour was reported in the immigration office during registration. It was found out that a number of old Chinese immigrants who came to Canada in the period of railway construction could not give evidence of their year and port of entry as well as proof that they were railroad constructors because they did not pay any head tax and had &a no registrationof any kind at that time. The second group of Chinese who failed to give proof of their status was the Canadian born. Many of them did not obtain birth certificates until a number of years later or when they wanted to visit China so that they could use it for re-entry. The 3rd group of Chinese who feared registration was the illegal immigrant. It was estimated that as many as a thousand Chinese had come to Canada illegally, many of whom would be deported upon registration. However, it was heard that some of the illegal immigrants might be allowed to stay and also all illegal immigrants were given a chance to appeal taxK before their deportation was finalized.P.3 3) wanted to clear the rumor that he belonged to Kuomingtang. He announced that he did not belong to any political party
